VILNIUS: The German animated short film A Blink of an Eye / Augenblicke by Kiana Naghshineh won the best film prize in the New Baltic Cinema competition of the European Film Forum Scanorama, which opened on 4 November 2020 in Vilnius and transferred to the virtual Scanorama cinema platform on 7 November.

TALLINN: The historical drama In the Dusk / Sutemose (also known as At Dusk) by acclaimed Lithuanian director Šarūnas Bartas is screening in the Baltic Competition of the 24th Black Nights Film Festival (PÖFF), running through 29 November 2020.

VILNIUS: Lithuanian director Ernestas Jankauskas is in postproduction with his second fiction feature I Am Fine, Thanks / Man viskas gerai, produced by Gabija Siurbytė and Greta Akcijonaitė at DANSU. The film will be presented at Baltic Event Work in Progress taking place as part of this year’s online one-week summit for film and audiovisual industry professionals, held during the Black Nights Film Festival PÖFF, on 23 - 27 November 2020.

VILNIUS: Cinemas in Lithuania, which were re-opened on 5 June 2020, are closing again for three weeks starting on 7 November 2020, in an effort to contain the spread of the coronavirus. Lithuania has so far recorded 18,092 COVID-19 cases since the outbreak of the pandemic. The country currently has 12,765  active coronavirus cases and 5,082 recoveries, with 35,403 people in self-isolation.

VILNIUS: The European Film Forum Scanorama 2020, which opened as planned on 4 November in Vilnius, will transfer to the virtual Scanorama cinema platform on 7 November.

VILNIUS: Ukrainian director Sergei Loznitsa is starting production on his archive documentary project The Natural History of Destruction / Natūrali naikinimo istorija. The film is produced by Germany‘s LOOKS Filmproduktionen GmbH in coproduction with Lithuania‘s Studio Uljana Kim and Atoms & Void (the Netherlands).

VILNIUS: Director Inesa Kurklietyte has moved into post-production with her feature film A Butterfly‘s Heart / Drugelio širdis produced by Živilė Gallego for Lithuania‘s Fralita Films.

VILNIUS: The Lithuanian Film Centre granted support of 2.8 m EUR for cinemas and film distributors to compensate for losses caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. In all, 18 cinemas, operating 71 screens in Lithuania, received 2.24 m EUR.

VILNIUS: Lithuanian director Irma Pužauskaitė is currently shooting her debut feature 9th Step / 9-as žingsnis. The shooting should have started in April, but was postponed due Covid-19 until September, 2020. The shooting is expected to wrap in October.

VILNIUS: Austėja Urbaitė has completed shooting on her debut feature film Family / Šeima, which is produced by the Lithuanian production company Fralita Films, under producer  Živilė Gallego.
