Lithuania and Eight EU Member States Call for Protection of European Film Festivals
Lithuania 07-04-2021VILNIUS: Lithuania’s Minister of Culture Simonas Kairys has teamed up with his counterparts from the Czech Republic, Estonia, Cyprus, Latvia, Poland, Malta, Slovakia and Slovenia to appeal to European Union’s commissioners over the financing of individual film festivals, which may be left without funding.
VILNIUS: The Vilnius IFF, which is going virtual, presents drive-in film screenings for its physical visitors in Kaunas. The KINO PAVASARIS Drive-In will take place 2-5 April 2021 on two screens built atop a parking garage.
VILNIUS: The 2021 digital edition of e-Meeting Point – Vilnius (eMPV), to be held 14 - 16 April 2021, will present 24 projects and eight screenings.
VILNIUS: Norway’s leading production house Maipo Film is shooting the second season of State of Happiness / Lykkeland in Lithuania. Principle photography in Vilnius began on 16 March 2021 and the shoot will complete at the end of April.
VILNIUS. The award-winning Norwegian actress and TV director Cecilie Mosli (Emmy-winning Mammon and the TV series Thin Ice) will start shooting her feature film debut Three Wishes for Cinderella / Trys riešutėliai pelenei in Lithuania on 24 March 2021. The Norwegian/Lithuanian coproduction is made in partnership with Lithuanian producer Ramūnas Škikas of the production company Ahil.
VILNIUS: The 26th Vilnius International Film Festival will take place 18 March – 24 April 2021 in the Lithuanian capital‘s six top hotels, complete with red carpets and step-and-repeat marketing boards. Hundreds of hotel rooms will turn into screening rooms, where all the festival films will be available through the television.
VILNIUS: The Pažaislis Church and Monastery Complex was awarded Best European Film Location in 2020 at an online Berlinale ceremony on 2 March 2021.
VILNIUS: The Coronavirus pandemic was challenging for the Lithuanian film industry as limitations were imposed upon all culture and film events in the whole country.
VILNIUS: The Swedish production company Scandinavian Content Group is currently shooting the six-part series Clark in Lithuania for Netflix. The local production company is Dansu, and the series is the biggest project in the company‘s history.
VILNIUS: Karolis Kaupinis's feature film Nova Lituania won awards for the Best Feature, Best Director, Best Script, Best Art Direction, Best Supporting Actress and Best Supporting Actor at the Lithuanian Film and TV Silver Crane Awards, held on 22 November 2020.
