VILNIUS: Lithuanian filmmaker Mantas Kvedaravičius is currently shooting his debut feature, the psychological drama Stasis, which is a coproduction between Lithuania, the Ukraine and France. Shooting takes place in the Ukraine, Greece, Turkey and Lithuania.
VILNIUS: The Lithuanian Film Centre has distributed 2,010,200 EUR as production and preproduction grants for 2017. New projects from Laila Pakalnina, Sergei Loznitsa, Inara Kolmane and Krzysztof Zanussi received grants.
Lithuanian film industry was well in 2016 with films selected for major festivals such as IDFA, Berlin, Busan, Karlovy Vary, Visions du Réel, and international productions flocking in after the launch of the incentives scheme in 2014.
VILNIUS: Domestic black comedy Zero III by Emilis Vėlyvis set a 2-year opening record in Lithuania, surpassing another film by Vėlyvis, that was holding a 20-year opening record.
VILNIUS: Lithuanian director Audrius Juzėnas is currently shooting his third feature film, Owl Mountain / Pelėdų kalnas. The release of this historical drama is planned for 16 February 2018, the day when Lithuania celebrates 100th anniversary of its Act of Independence.
VILNIUS: Documentary Waiting for Invasion by Neringa Medutyte will wrap shooting in December 2016, with the premiere set for the first quarter of 2017. The film is a coming-of-age story about two young Lithuanians conscripted in case of a Russian aggression.
VILNIUS: Leningrad Symphony, a docudrama by director Christian Frey for Beetz Filmproduktion Hamburg, begins principle photography in Lithuania on 29 November 2016. Shooting wil wrap on 4 December.
VILNIUS: The Estonian short The Mousoleum by director Lauri Randla won the New Baltic Cinema competition of the European Film Forum Scanorama, with the winners announced on 13 November 2016. Five Lithuanian, three Estonian and three Latvian shorts vied in the New Baltic Cinema competition.
VILNIUS: Director Emilis Vėlyvis started shooting the third part of his famous trilogy Zero III with Kino Kultas producing. The previous film in the trilogy, Zero 2 (2010) is the most popular film of all time in Lithuania.
VILNIUS: Nikita Mikhalkov‘s Russian production company Three T Production and local coproducer Artbox are currently shooting the feature film Going Vertical by Anton Megerdichev in Lithuania. The film tells the story of the USSR basketball team, that won against the American team for the first time in history, in 1972.
