This month we speak with Aiga Stengrevica, the manager of Splendid Palace, a splendid cinema located in the historical center of Riga, in a national architectural monument founded in 1923 and built by the architect Fridrihs Karlis Skujins. Splendid Palace is the first building in the Baltic States built especially for cinema and it kept its purpose through the political changes, including WWII.
BUCHAREST: The Romanian government approved an emergency ordinance regarding the film industry shortly before the parliamentary elections set for 11 December 2016. Most of the articles of the draft proposed by the Ministry of Culture were approved except the ones regarding additional sources for the Film Fund.
TBILISI: Ten films are competing in the international competition of the 17th Tbilisi International Film Festival taking place from 28 November to 4 December 2016.
BUCHAREST: Romanian writer/director Cristina Iacob is in preparation with another teen film, Confessions of a Teenager / Suge-o, Ramona!, following her box office hits #selfie and #selfie 69, which topped the domestic charts in 2014 and 2016,
ZAGREB: Writer/director Bobo Jelčić is in preparation with All Alone / Sam samcat, an intimate character study and a social drama about a divorced father struggling with the legal labyrinth without breaking the parental bond. The film is a Croatian/Bosnian coproduction.
BUCHAREST: Romania's Asociatia Culturala Control N and Transilvania IFF together with Poland's Krakow Festival Office are the CEE partners of the script development European platform Less Is More (LIM), whose first edition will take place in 2017.
BUCHAREST: The first interactive phone application dedicated to art house films has been launched in Romania. The application called Călăuza / The Stalker will inform audiences about art cinema programmes and screenings in unconventional spaces in order to promote good films and film-related events.
ZAGREB: Acclaimed Croatian writer/director Ognjen Sviličić is in preparation with God in a Shoe, a drama about faith set for shooting in summer/autumn 2017.
ZAGREB: Deep Cuts, an omnibus film about violence, directed by Filip Peruzović, Filip Mojzeš and Dubravka Turić, is currently in preparation. The Croatian company Kinematograf is producing.
ZAGREB: Eduard Galić, at age 80 considered the most prolific director in Croatia with a career spanning more than 45 years, is in preparation with a new feature film, The Sixth Bus. This Croatian/Australian coproduction is set for shooting in fall 2017.
