LJUBLJANA: Slovenian hit film director Marko Naberšnik is finishing work on The Woods Are Still Green, an anti-war drama set during WWI. The Austrian-Slovenian coproduction shot in extreme weather conditions in only 18 days.
BUCHAREST: The Competition Council of Romania has authorised the take over of Prima TV by the Romanian company Graffiti Red SRL of SBS Broadcasting Media SRL (which has the licence of Prima TV), and Prime Time Productions SRL.
ZAGREB: The Croatian Audiovisual Centre allotted 784,272 EUR/6 m HRK in the final session of 2013. The grants were announced on 24 January 2014.
BUCHAREST: Dinu Cocea, the director of popular adventure films through the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s, died in Paris at 84.
BUCHAREST: The winner of the Special Mention at the 2012 edition of ScripTeast will be financed by French producers with shooting scheduled for fall 2014.
BUCHAREST: Nicolas Cage, Anton Yelchin and Irene Jacob star Paul Schrader’s The Dying of the Light which will shoot at Castel Film Studios in Romania starting 27 January 2014.
BUCHAREST: Almost half of the 20 Romanian premieres expected in 2014, are debut or second films, with most of the films receiving support from the National Centre for Cinema. Films by Nae Caranfil, Florin Şerban and Andrei Gruzsnicki will also hit the domestic screens in 2014.
BUCHAREST: Romanian producer Alexandru Iclozan passed away after a long illness at age 62.
ZAGREB: Domestic admissions for Croatian films reached a high of 443,539 in 2013, up from 326,455 in 2012 and 108,386 in 2011. Admissions for domestic films are almost 15 times higher than they were 20 years ago.
SOFIA: Central European Media Enterprises (CME) has appointed Pavel Stanchev as CEO of BTV, its main Bulgarian TV channel. Stanchev will move to the new post on 1 February 2014.
