WARSAW: Barbara Pec-Ślesicka, production manager and long-time collaborator of Andrzej Wajda, died on 6 July 2020 at the age of 84. She supervised the production of the most important works in the history of Polish cinema, winning the 1983 BAFTA award for Danton.

WARSAW: Work has been resumed on The Republic of Children, a fantasy drama by Jan Jakub Kolski, after a break caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

WARSAW: Cinema City, one of Poland’s biggest exhibition chains, will not open its cinemas on 3 July 2020 after a break caused by the coronavirus epidemic as was previously announced.

WARSAW: The feature debut drama from Monika Jordan-Młodzianowska entitled The Iron Bridge opens in Norway and Denmark on 2 July 2020.

WARSAW: Jan Komasa, the director of the Academy Award nominated film Corpus Christi, is working on his first English language film, Anniversary. The film will be a post-apocalyptic drama with an international crew and cast, produced by Nick Wechsler, Steve Schwartz and Paula Mae Schwartz.

WARSAW: The Polish erotic thriller 365 Days is currently the most popular feature film in the British and US edition of Netflix and in second place worldwide.

WARSAW: It is a wrap for Baptism / Chrzciny, the feature debut of Jakub Skoczeń, starring Katarzyna Figura. The production was one of the first feature films that wrapped after the COVID-19 lockdown was lifted in Poland.

KRAKOW: Worcenter, @miriamfrompoland and Escape to the Silver Globe were among the ten new documentary projects showcased to international distributors, sales agents and festival representatives at the 5th edition of the DOC LAB POLAND: Docs To Go pitching session held during the 60th Krakow Film Festival. Each project is in the final stages of production and should be completed in 2021-2022.

WARSAW: The Mazovia Film Fund chose 11 projects to support with coproduction grants totaling 1.8 m PLN / 420,851 EUR, including new films from Małgorzata Szumowska, Paweł Łoziński and Piotr Stasik.

KRAKOW: Being Bieniowski, Don't Mess with Gienek, and I Have Seen Everything were among the eleven new documentary projects showcased to international distributors, sales agents and festival representatives at the 5th edition of the DOC LAB POLAND: Docs To Start (3-4 July 2020) pitching session held during the 60th Krakow Film Festival. Each project is in development or an early stage of production and should be completed in 2021-2022.
