Since 2001, the Institute of Documentary Film (IDF) has been supporting Central and East European creative documentary films in all stages of production. It helps both established and up-and-coming filmmakers in the early stage of project development; producers receive support in funding, distribution and marketing, as well as assistance in navigating the international market. Each year, films in IDF programmes earn a number of international awards. Yet how are Czech filmmakers recognised in the local context?

Blackandwhite, directed by Zoe Eluned Aiano and Anna Benner, is the winner of the IF/Then Short Pitch, a partnership between the Institute of Documentary Film, the One World International Human Rights Documentary Film Festival and the Tribeca Film Institute.

The 15th edition of the Ex Oriente Film workshop, organised by the Institute of Documentary Film, is opening its final session.

Together with the Creative Europe Desks - MEDIA from the Czech Republic and Slovakia, the Institute of Documentary Film organises a meeting with documentary filmmakers in Prague on 25 January 2018  regarding Media and Society: European Documentary in a Changing Media Landscape,  a project aiming to set out a blueprint to secure a sustainable future for the industry.

Romanian filmmaker Ana Lungu is developing The Unbearable Lightness of the Golden Age, a documentary on 8 mm aiming at creating an intimate portrait of the typical family during the Communist era.

Marine Gulbiani is currently in production with documentary Before Father Is Back, a coproduction between France, Georgia and Germany.

The large group of East European film professionals who attended IDFA –  the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (15-26 November 2017) is headed by the Institute of Documentary Film.

Films by Czech director Helena Trestikova and Romanian director Alexandru Solomon have been picked up by Hungary's Verzio IDFF.

Czech films are having a banner year at IDFA.

Three films received Silver Eye Awards at the Jihlava IDFF.
