Beryl Koltz, the president of the Jury, commented the verdict of the Jury as follows : “We have decided to award a film in which a divorced father, despite his best efforts, finds himself in an inextricable family situation... We have chosen to award the Grand Prix CinEast 2012 to this film for the numerous outstanding qualities that it reunites: masterful directing, claustrophobic atmosphere that keeps the audience in suspense, extraordinary real-time narration, very realistic psychology of characters, remarkable work with actors, tragicomic feel that at times turns into truly exhilarating moments... and this film is... Everybody In 0ur Family by the Romanian director Radu Jude.”
The Jury has also awarded the Special Prize of the Jury to Tilva Rosh directed by the Serbian director Nikola Ležaić : “The film that we have decided to award with the Special Prize of the Jury tells a story about the next generation... Coming from a real situation and developing into fiction, it talks about life, desire, growing up, feelings in a very sensitive way - showing young people without sexuality, without responsibility, without maturity, under aneesthesia... “ (György Pálfi)
The Audience Award goes to Mushrooming directed by the Estonian director Toomas Hussar, which was the best rated film in the votes of the festival-goers. And finally, the Audience Award for the Best Short Feature Film – first ever in the festival’s history – goes to Frozen Stories by Grzegorz Jaroszuk.
The Awards ceremony was followed by the projection of the latest film of the special guest and member of the Jury György Pálfi entitled Final Cut – Ladies and Gentlemen, an extraordinary love story collage from 450 world cinema classics (followed by a discussion with the director). The CinEast festival runs until Sunday 28 October.
