For five days – the festival takes place between the 24th and the 28th of September – the Town Hall Square, Sala Traube, Cinema Mediensis, the Sinagogue and Centrul de documentare și informare Romgaz will host the special events and the screenings of MECEFF 2012.
The main attraction of the second edition is, obviously, the competitive section including seven films, one for each Central-European country, all of them winners of their respective National Awards: the Czech Republic (Four Suns, by Bohdan Sláma), Slovakia (Made in Ash, by Iveta Grofova), Austria (Breathing, written and directed by Karl Markovics), Hungary (The Exam, by Péter Bergendy), Romania (Of Snails and Men, written by Ionuț Teianu and directed by Tudor Giurgiu), Poland (In Darkness, by Agnieszka Holland) and Slovenia (Shanghai Gypsy, written and directed by Marko Naberšnik).
Besides the official competition, the cinema aficionados are invited to watch a series of „bonus” series of productions based in this geographic area, films which were selected in some of the most important international cinematic events, the program Guest country: Germany, which will allow film aficionados to (re)watch films by great German directors (Rainer Werner Fassbinder, Wim Wenders, Edgar Reitz or Werner Herzog) and the films made in Germany by the president of the festival, director Radu Gabrea, a special portrait focused on German producer Renate Ziegler, and a series of restored Yiddish films gathered in the "The president's selection" section.
