The sixth edition of CinEast - the Central and Eastern European Film Festival in Luxembourg - will be held from 9 to 27 October 2013 in 13 venues in Luxembourg city and other towns, and will offer around 100 screenings of more than 50 features and 50 short films from 15 post-communist countries, as well as many accompanying events.
Eight films compete in the official competition: A Stranger by Bobo Jelčić, Child’s Pose by Călin Peter Netzer, Circles by Srdan Golubović, Heavenly Shift by Márk Bodzsár, Imagine by by Andrzej Jakimowski, My Dog Killer by Mira Fornay, The Arbiter by Kadri Kõusaar and The Gambler by Ignas Jonynas. The jury is led by the Luxembourgish film director and producer Donato Rotunno and includes Polish director Katarzyna Klimkiewicz, Bosnian actor Maja Jurić, producer Bernard Michaux and journalist Vesna Andonovic. The Cinéfocus feature provides a closer look at the work of the Slovenian director Metod Pevec, Czech director Alice Nellis, Polish actor Eryk Lubos, Bulgarian production company Agitprop and Łódź Film School. The programme also comprises sections dedicated to comedies, documentaries and special screenings as well as 4 short films marathons and programmes for children and young people.
Among the numerous guests attending CinEast 2013 are: Leon Lučev, Kristina Buožytė, Ilinca Goia, Maria Sadowska, Kadri Kõusaar and Martichka Bozhilova. Some of the films are related to the thematic cycle “Women’s Stories”, which is also reflected in two photographic exhibitions. Moreover, CinEast offers musical events (Yellow Sisters & Balkan party, Małe Instrumenty, Baltic Night with Tanel Padar & The Sun, Milenita), gastronomy evenings, debates and a forum for film professionals CinEast Pro dedicated to exploring co-production possibilities between the film industry in Luxembourg and the represented countries.
The aim of the CinEast festival is to present a selection of mostly new and recent films from Central and Eastern Europe, which are rarely seen in the cinemas of the Grand Duchy, to the multi-national Luxembourg audience. CinEast also strives to become a platform for meetings, discussions and exchanges within the multicultural society of Luxembourg. The festival opens with the film Tango Abrazos in presence of the Slovenian director Metod Pevec (9/10 at CCRN) and follows with a Special Opening Gala with Andrzej Wajda’s Walesa. Man of Hope (Benelux premiere on 10/10 at Utopolis Kirchberg).
