This year’s festival will delight viewers with long awaited works of cinema virtuosos, astonishing directors’ debuts, retrospectives, dozens of critics’ discussions and movies that have won the love of audiences at Berlin, Cannes, Venice, Rotterdam, Sundance, Karlovy Vary, Locarno film festivals.
Film directors will also visit the festival and invite cinemagoers to participate in discussions. Scanorama will welcome Natalia Merkulova and Alexei Chupov (Intimate Parts), Tom Shkolnik (The Comedian), Goran Paskaljevic (When Day Breaks), Marteinn Thorsson (XL), Antonio Piazza (Salvo), Johanna Jackie Baier (Julia), Matteo Oleotto (Zoran, My Nephew the Idiot), Vitali Mansky (Pipeline), Jan Forsström (The Princess of Egypt), actor Tommi Korpela (Things We Do for Love) and other guests.
For its fifth year running the competition programme New Baltic Cinema will include short film entries from Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia. An international jury will award two prizes – the best film of the New Baltic Cinema competition programme will be given an award and the best young Lithuanian director will receive financial support for his future film project.
The festival will host the traditional cinema industry event SCANORAMA DIRECTIONS. This year it is dedicated to presenting uncompleted movies from the Baltics and Scandinavia (Work in Progress). The Polish cinema legend Krzysztof Zanussi will show his film The Foreign Body at the festival.
The eleventh European Film Forum Scanorama will take place in Vilnius on 7-17 November, Kaunas on 14-24 November, Klaipėda on 14-17 November and Šiauliai on 23-24 November.
