Paul Negoescu - Honorary Ambassador of the European Film Festival, XXI edition

Paul Negoescu, the director of Two Lottery Tickets (2016), inspired by the work of Ion Luca Caragiale, is the Honorary Ambassador of the European Film Festival current edition, continuing a decade old tradition: to allow Romanian filmmakers to testify for the European film. The directors are invited to use their language of preference, the film, and they never disappoint.

"For me, the cinema is a universal language and I’m reluctant to split it geographically, ethnically or nationally. I equally appreciate European, American, Iranian or Japanese films. However, the European film has a special meaning for me, as I relate with its values. In European cinema, the author's vision is above the financial investors’ interests, and when the author has full creative freedom, authentic, unconventional and daring films can arise. Moreover, in times that seem to get more and more divisive, the cinema upholds as a social hard core able to bring us together, and the European film makes no exception." Paul Negoescu

Paul has directed the video spot promoting the current edition, based on his own idea. It illustrates the passion for the European film and, in line with the Festival’s new direction, it alludes to the film’s capacity to prompt not just emotion, but also debate. Unsurprisingly, stirring debate is the very essence of European cinema. https://youtu.be/HZKhFLLYOyg

The Honorary Ambassadors of EFF previous editions are: Anca Damian (2016), Tudor Giurgiu (2015), Adrian Sitaru (2014), Cătălin Mitulescu (2012), Radu Muntean (2011), Radu Jude (2010), Marian Crişan (2009), Cristian Mungiu (2008), Corneliu Porumboiu (2007) and Cristi Puiu (2006). Each of them provided an original approach in promoting the Festival, by drafting the script and undertaking the direction, thus contributing to the sentimental video chronology of the latest 10 editions: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0oujLOJkq2E

The director and screenwriter, Paul Negoescu, marked his directorial debut through A Month in Thailand (2012) and won several international awards for his comedy Two Lottery Tickets (2016).
