It has been a good year for Suleiman Mountain (dir. Elizaveta Stishova, B'EST EAVE Best Project POV Film Fund Award 2014 winner and Co-Production Market 2015 participant), which was granted with FIPRESCI and NETPAC awards at Eurasia International Film Festival and won the East of The West category at Karlovy Vary, while also screening at Toronto IFF. Anna’s War (dir. Aleksey Fedorchenko, Works in Progress 2016) held its world premiere at Rotterdam, won awards at Sochi and Sakhalin and also screened in competition at Göteborg. When the Trees Fall (dir. Marysia Nikitiuk, Baltic Event Co-Production Market 2013, Works in Progress 2016) brought home the Best Actress award from Odessa and is due to compete for the New Talent Grand PIX at Copenhagen. Crystal Swan (dir. Darya Zhuk, Works in Progress Post Production Award 2017 winner) was selected to East of the West at Karlovy Vary and won the Grand Prix at Odessa and Almaty, while also becoming Belarus’ foreign language Academy Award candidate.
The Finnish comedy Heavy Trip (dir. Juuso Laatio, Jukka Vidgren, Baltic Event Co-Production Market 2014, Screen International Best Pitch Award) received the Best Film prize in the Taste of Europe competition at Oostende Film Festival and starts its distribution in the US cinemas (LevelK sales). The Confession (dir. Zaza Urushadze, Works in Progress 2016) was screened at Palm Springs and in competition at Warsaw and Packing Heavy (dir. Darío Mascambroni, Works in Progress 2017) competed for Best Film at Generation Kplus at Berlinale. One Last Deal (dir. Klaus Härö, Co-Production Market 2015, Works in Progress 2017), held its world premiere in Contemporary World Cinema section at Toronto. Take It or Leave It (dir. Liina Triškina-Vanhatalo, Works in Progress Baltic View Award 2017 winner) was selected as the Estonian candidate for the foreign language Academy Award in 2019, hoping to repeat the company’s 2014 feat when Tangerines (also a Baltic Event project) became an official nomination. Another Estonian title, the local box office hit The Little Comrade (dir. Moonika Siimets, Works in Progress 2017) will shortly screen in competition at Busan International Film Festival.
