The tenth edition of New Horizons Studio+ took place July 27 – 30 during the 19th New Horizons International Film Festival (July 25 – August 4).
Organized by the New Horizons Association and Creative Europe Desk Poland, it consisted of workshops and lectures on various aspects related to the project promotion and development.
New Horizons Studio+ selects European director-producer pairs who are developing their first or second feature film. 10 emerging talents from Poland and 10 from Denmark, Austria, Ukraine, Romania and Serbia took part in the programme under the supervision of the following experts: David Pope (London Film Academy), sales agent Hédi Zardi – CEO of Luxbox, Michael Arnon (EAVE) representing Wolf Consultants, Aranka Matits (EAVE) from Featurette and Mathias Noschis from Alphapanda.
The New Horizons Studio+ program was completed with a meeting with the special guest Sten-Kristian Saluveer who gave a lecture “Virtual Reality & Beyond”, which was a part of Creativity Talks organized by the British Council.
The participants took part in the pitching contest. The jury selecting the best project and pitch (composed of Hédi Zardi, Michael Arnon, David Pope as well as Creative Europe Desk Poland, New Horizons Association, London Film Academy and Ale kino+ television channel representatives) decided to give two main awards and a special mention.
How is Katia? (directed by Christina Tynkevych and produced by Olha Matat) received the New Horizons Association / London Film Academy Main Award. The award is project consultation sponsored by London Film Academy.
Jury statement: For its complex characters and a journey that leads them to grow and surpass their moral limits, an ethically grounded yet relatable, convincing story we want to see brought to the screen.
Horia (directed by Ana-Maria Comănescu and produced by Carla Fotea) received Ale kino+ Television Channel Award, which is the Letter of Intent for TV distribution.
Jury statement: An affectionate and clear pitch of a story that speaks to a chapter in everyone's life when you have to win your own heart.
The Quiet Migration (directed by Malene Choi Jensen and produced by Maria Møller Kjeldgaard) received a Special Mention.
Jury statement: Salute the beauty of an artistic gesture based in a sincere personal background mixed with a unique cinematic poetry, It’s a strong promise of a beautiful film.
