During the workshop selected producer/director teams will screen their full rough cut in a private session and receive expert feedback on their edit from three top international film professionals (creative producers, festival programmers, sales agents, etc.) as well as trailor-made advice from a consultant editor.
So far, 51 feature films have benefited from the programme. Polish productions that participated in the First Cut Lab workshops include such titles as Hatred by Wojciech Smarzowski, Fugue by Agnieszka Smoczyńska, Nina by Olga Chajdas as well as yet to be released The Getaway King by Mateusz Rakowicz.
Weronika Czołnowska, Head of Industry comments:
Hosting First Cut Lab is a natural step towards the expansion of our Polish Days industry event, so I am extremely happy to start this cooperation. Polish Days is the biggest industry event in Poland aiming at the promotion of Polish cinema; presenting projects in development, works-in-progress and finished films to international industry representatives. FCL shares our goals and objectives therefore we consider it as a perfect partner for our program. We are creating yet another opportunity for Polish filmmakers not only to increase the sales, festival and international circulation potential of the selected projects but also to boost their artistic potential at the stage of editing.
Marcin Pieńkowski, the Artistic Director of New Horizons IFF adds:
I am very happy that First Cut Lab will be a part of this year’s New Horizons IFF. These are currently the only workshops that focus on the critical and crucial aspect of the filmmaking process - editing. Working on the draft version of the film is a great adventure and a great challenge. The FCL formula is brilliantly refined and unique - I am convinced that participation in these workshops will help Polish filmmakers in making the right editing choices.
Matthieu Darras, Director of First Cut Lab explains:
We are thrilled to partner with New Horizons IFF, known for its vital role in the Polish film industry and to discover and collaborate on a new selection of fresh upcoming Polish works. We are delighted with the opportunity to continue our support for Polish filmmakers, after 5 previous successful workshops, in these times when supporting the industry is more important than ever.
