BIAFF 2021 Closing Ceremony and Awards

    BIAFF Film festival closing ceremony took place on 24 September, at Cinema Apollo

    Festival Jury awarded prizes in three competition sections – Feature Films, Doc Films and Short Films.

    BIAFF 2021 international competition section’s Jury consisting of five members – Lana Ghoghoberidze – Head of Jury (Georgia), Iryna Gordiichuk (Ukraine), Nino Meskhidze (Georgia), Keti Machavariani (Georgia), Gogi Gvakharia (Georgia) awarded the following prizes:

    • Grand Prix – “What Do We See When We Look at the Sky?”, Alexander Koberidze, Georgia/Germany, 2021
    • Best Film Director –  Kornel Mundruzo for film “Evolution”, Germany/Hungary, 2021
    • Best Actress – Nutasa Kukhianidze in film “Otar’s Death” by Soso Bliadze, Georgia/Germany/Lithuania, 2021
    • Best Actor – Serhii Filimonov in film “Rhino” by Oleh Sentsov, Ukraine/Germany/Poland, 2021
    • Jury Special Mention – “Otar’s Death” by Soso Bliadze, Georgia/Germany/Lithuania, 2021 and     “Bandar Band” by Manijeh Hekmat, Iran, 2021

    BIAFF 2021 Georgia Film Critics Jury consisting of - Theo Khatiashvili (Chairwoman), Nino Chimakadze, Dato Turashvili revealed the prize for best film by film critics:

    • Best film – “What Do We See When We Look at the Sky?”, Alexander Koberidze, Georgia/Germany, 2021

    BIAFF 2021 Documentary Films international competition section’s Jury consisting of five members – Vakhtan Kuntsev-Gabashvili - Head of Jury (Georgia), Andrzej Slowicki (Germany), Evgenia Ostanina (Russia) awarded the following prizes:

    • The Best Doc film - “1970”, Tomasz Wolski, Poland, 2021
    • Special Mentions - “Foundation Pit”, Andrey Gryazev , Russia, 2020  and  “Atlantide”, Yuri Ancarani, Italy/France/U.S./Qatar, 2021

    BIAFF 2021 Short Film competition section’s Jury consisting of – Dato Janelidze (Georgia - Head of Jury), Kote Chlaidze (Georgia) and Shota Gujabidze (Georgia) awarded the following prizes:

    • The Best Short film – “Leopolis Night”, Nikon Romanchenko, Ukraine, 2021
    • Jury Special Mentions -  “Preparation”, Ilia Asitashvili, Georgia, 2021; “Like in Mykono”, Alessandro Porzio, Italy, 2021  & “Lili Alone”, Zou Jing, China, 2021

    At BIAFF 2021 Industry Platform “Alternative Wave” by Istanbul film festival’s Industry Platform “Meeting on the Bridge” was selected Georgian Project – “Me, Greta”, Miranda Namicheishvili & Ani Kvichidze

    BIAFF 2021 Life time Achievement awards for contribution to cinema was granted to:

    • Janri Lolashvili (Georgia)
    • Kakhi khutsishvili (Georgia)
