ONLINE EDITION CONTINUES UNTIL NOVEMBER 14
Until November 14, viewers in the Czech Republic can enjoy a selection of over 160 films from the Ji.hlava programme online via DAFilms.com. The selection includes films in the competition programme including their winners, as well as films from the retrospective sections.
JI.HLAVA WELCOMED OVER 1,200 INDUSTRY GUESTS
The rich Ji.hlava industry programme, which featured pitchings, discussions, matchmaking, networking events, film market and presentations, took place in a hybrid mode. The Ji.hlava New Visions Forum presentations and other recorded events are available to the accredited industry guests at Ji.hlava Industry LIVE platform until November 14. A number of events are publicly accessible – such as the EMERGING PRODUCERS 2022 public presentation, Czech Joy in the Spotlight overview of new Czech documentaries, and the Visegrad Accelerator discussion about the current trends and challenges of film production in Central Europe.
INSPIRATION FORUM – WATCH TOPICAL DEBATES ONLINE
For the eleventh time, the Ji.hlava’s unique Inspiration Forum connected the film world with the world beyond. Visitors had an opportunity to engage in discussions with inspirational personalities from across the world, including Afghan filmmaker Sahra Karimi, American ecologist and philosopher David Abram, Canadian philosopher and writer Nick Srnicek, Polish women’s rights activist Marta Lempart, psychiatrist Bruce D. Perry, and American feminist, philosopher and gender studies legend Judith Butler. The recordings of the debates will be published on a daily basis starting today at the Ji.hlava’s FB page.
PRODUCERS’ AWARD FOR JACQUES BIDOU
The APA Excellence Award for the Best Producer of 2021 accorded by the Czech Association of Producers was handed at the 25th Ji.hlava to a French producer Jacques Bidou. Together with his partner Marianne Dumoulin, he has produced films by the likes of Merzak Allouache, Alice Rohrwacher, Annemarie Jacir, Marc Recha, María de Medeiros, Teresa Villaverde, Fernando Guzzoni, Pablo Agüero, Raoul Peck, Rithy Panh and Tsai Ming-Liang. Jacques Bidou was the third laurate of the award, after Gabriele Kranzelbinder and Heino Deckert in the last two years.
PREPARATIONS FOR THE 26TH EDITION ARE UNDERWAY, THE PHILIPPINES IN FOCUS
As soon as this year’s Ji.hlava had finished, we started to prepare our 26th edition, which will take place on October 25–30, 2022. One announcement was already made at Ji.hlava last week: Next year's country in focus will be the Philippines! The first ever retrospective of Filipino documentary cinematography outside of the country will map 104 years of Filipino documentary and experimental cinema. And already in the upcoming months we will organize Echoes of Ji.hlava in different parts of the world, so stay tuned!
