Extensive Presentation of Czech Films and Guests at Polish Film Festival in Gdynia

    Press Release

Prague, September 15, 2008 - The 33rd annual Gdynia Film Festival, which is aimed at showcasing the best of Polish cinema in the last year, opens today. As guest cinematography at this year's primarily Polish film festival, the Czech Republic will be represented with an impressive total of 9 Czech movies. Moreover, the Czech-Polish co-production The Karamazovs by director Petr Zelenka is set to appear in the festival's main competition. And, for the first time ever, a "foreign" professional has been chosen for the jury: producer Rudolf Biermann. The Czech presence at the festival of Polish cinema will be rounded out by a conference titled "Like in Czech Film."

Thanks to CFC's active cooperation with the festival, a total of 10 Czech films will be screened between September 15th and 21st, including: Citzen Havel, Fimfárum 2, The Loveliest Riddle, Václav, ...It's Gonna Get Worse and Dolls. Also appearing in the festival's program are Teddy Bear, Grapes and Little Girl Blue, which were purchased by the Polish distributor Viverto and will subsequently be distributed in Poland.

Zelenka's The Karamazovs will compete with 16 other Polish pictures for the Golden Lion. The film delegation will feature Petr Zelenka and actor Ivan Trojan. The main jury, chaired by Polish director Robert Glinski (Hi Teresa) and composed of Polish professionals, includes Rudolf Biermann, who has been producing Czech films, e.g., King of Thieves, Roming or Shameless, for years.

Thursday, September 18th will be designated "Czech Day" at the festival of Polish films, and will feature a conference called "Like in Czech Film," where Czech filmmakers will discuss Czech cinema and the possibilities for Czech-Polish cooperation. The conference will be attended by producers Pavel Strnad (Negativ), Helena Uldrichová (Barrandov Studio), Martin Vandas (MAUR Film) and Ondřej Trojan (Total Helpart T.H.A).
