A great part of the Monday programme was devoted to experimental film. The Fascinations section offered four blocks, a total of 6 hours of documentary experiments. Czech experimental film was introduced by Martin Ježek, who also presented his films Winter War and Kontralicht. Among the avant-garde films from the 1960s and 1970s, the viewers could watch for example the film Shepherds Bush by Mike Legget. In his Master Class, held in the Reform hall of the Dukla cinema at five p.m., Frederick Wiseman screened a sample selection from his films and, in the form of a live discussion, attempted to explain the social phenomena pointed out in his films. After the Darkroom section, presenting abstract photographs from Afghanistan by Adam Broomberg and Oliver Chanarin this time, the film Gyumri about the impact of a devastating earthquake on the lives of local people by Jana Ševčíková was introduced. East European Forum, a space for discussion among distributors and sales agents about future plans and strategies, was concluded in the afternoon in the Mahler Hotel. The final evening screening presented the film Import/Export by Austrian director Ulrich Seidl who will also have a master class at the festival on Tuesday.
Tuesday is the last complete festival day. Besides the above mentioned Master Class of Ulrich Seidl, his film Loss Is to Be Expected will be screened in the morning hours in the DKO grand hall. Films by Pauline Soumanou Vieyra, one of the founders of African cinematography, will be screened in the Dukla cinema at five p.m.; among them, let us mention the film Fight about a Senegal martial art introduced as a certain ethnic-social frame by the author. The last part of the Darkroom will present an interesting screening of StB photographs including commentary, followed by a thematically related film by Robert Sedláček Gustáv Husák Center Stage. The Fascinations section will introduce the film Winnipeg Babysitter by director Daniel Barrow, a contribution to the programme by prominent Canadian experimental filmmaker Mike Hoolboom whose films were presented at the previous years of IDFF Jihlava. At eight p.m., the closing ceremony will be held in the DKO grand hall, culminating in the screening of the winning film.
SECTION FOR FILM PROFESSIONALS
Sales and Distribution Session
On its closing day, the East European Forum in cooperation with the East Silver market hosted the Sales and Distribution Session, a meeting of key international sales agents and distributors who introduced their companies and reflected on contemporary documentary trends. In the EEF Follow-up Session, five of the panelists also offered some valuable advice to the East European Forum participants on further options available for their projects so that they are able to devise a suitable sales and distribution strategy.
