Berlinale Selects Films by Tanović and Wasilewski for Competition

    SARAJEVO/WARSAW: Death in Sarajevo by Danis Tanović and United States of Love by Tomasz Wasilewski have been selected for the competition of the 66th Berlin Film Festival (11-21 February 2016). Both of them are world premieres.

    Death in Sarajevo / Smrt u Sarajevu is based on the play of the French philosopher, journalist and writer Bernard-Henri Levy, and explores the existential fears, anxieties and moral dilemmas that plague modern European society. Danis Tanović wrote the script. France's Margo Films and CCA/pro.ba from Bosnia and Herzegovina are producing in coproduction with France 3 Cinema. The main characters are played by Jacques Weber, Snežana Vidović, Izudin Bajrović and Vedrana Seksan.

    United States of Love / Zjednoczone Stany Miłosci by Tomasz Wasilewski is a Polish/Swedish coproduction between Manana and VP SA, Film i Väst and Common Ground Pictures. The film is co-financed by the Polish Film Institute and Film i Väst. The story written by Tomasz Wasilewski follows four apparently happy women of different ages who decide to change their lives in the 1990’s Poland.

    Oleg Mutu from Romania (4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days, Mobra Films) is the DoP. The film stars Julia Kijowska, Magdalena Cielecka, Dorota Kolak and Marta Nieradkiewicz.

    Fifteen films have been selected so far for the Competition of the 66th Berlin International Film Festival. The complete Competition programme will be announced soon.
