Since the 2004 premiere of his sophomore film Days and Hours (Refresh Production), Žalica has concentrated on writing scripts and directing documentaries. He is returning to feature films with a story about Armin, who returns to Bosnia and Herzegovina from Germany to surprise his father Fudo with the information that he's just got married. Instead of a happy reunion, Armin is faced with unexpected news - his father has been arrested for war crimes.
The estimated budget of the project is 1,260,075 EUR and the first funds have already been acquired. The project received 45,000 EUR support from the Ministry of Culture and Sports of the Sarajevo Canton and 2,500 EUR as a project development sponsorship from Tondach BiH.
Pjer Žalica, Aida Huseinović and Rusmir Efendić are to produce the film through the newly founded Association Forum. Croatian Propeler Film, French A.S.A.P. Films, Slovenian Staragara, Serbian Baš Čelik and Montenegrin Artikulacija Film have already expressed their interest to enter the coproduction. The team is still open to discussing additional coproduction partnerships and possible in-kind support during CineLink.
No sales agent is attached to the project and rights are available for the whole world.
According to the production plan, May Labour Day should go into production in spring 2019 and is expected to premiere at the beginning of 2020.
