She faces a complex situation, torn between two continents and two men: her American fiancé and her first Bulgarian lover. In America she can expect a peaceful and secure future while in Bulgaria she can rediscover passion in love. The film was shot on location in Bulgaria.
Nikolova has a Master’s degree in film from the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University. Following in the footsteps of her father Georgi Nikolov, one of the leading directors of photography in Bulgarian cinema, Kristina has been DoP on six features and ten shorts.
The national premiere of the film took place during the 2012 Sofia Film Festival (www.siff.bg). It won several international awards including the Kodak Vision Award for Best Cinematography for DoPAlexander Stanishev at the Slamdance showcase “for raw and innovative filmmaking,” the Narrative Feature Competition Grand Jury Prize at the Dallas International Film Festival (www.diff2012.dallasfilm.org) and the Best Debut Award at the SEE Fes, Los Angeles (www.seefilmla.org/drupal).
The film received funding from the Bulgarian National Film Center (www.nfc.bg). The cast includes two young and promising actors: Valeri Yordanov, known as one of the scriptwriters and directors of Sneakers, the filmchosen to represent Bulgaria in the foreign film completion of the Academy awards and Yavor Baharov, known his roles in Victor Chuchkov’s Junior’s Tilt and in the popular TV serial Glass Home.
