Unlike last year when the festival did not take place due to the lack of films, this year the full-length feature films competition contains fifteen titles, eight of which are debuts. The Bulgarian NFC supported nine films and Bulgarian National Television backed one. Four films received financial support for distribution and two received support for festival promotion. The rest of the films were shot with entirely private funding. Three of them were released domestically before the festival. Seven feature films will be screened out of competition.
In comparison with the 31st edition which took place in 2012, the number of the short feature films also increased. The short film competition contains 19 titles and 15 more will comprise the out of competition programme.
“This year we have a special Jubilee program of eight classic Bulgarian films. This way we will honour the anniversaries of famous Bulgarian filmmakers such as scriptwriters Hristo Ganev and Alexander Tomov, director Ivan Terziev, the famous actresses Tatiana Lolova and Tsvetana Maneva, directors of photography Victor Chichov and Krasimir Kostov, art designers Georgi Todorov-Josie and Anastas Yanakiev. In memoriam, we will show two films with which we will honour the memory of two of the greatest creative tandems in Bulgarian cinema: Valeri Petrov/Rangel Valchanov and Svoboda Bachvarova/Ivanka Grabcheva,’’ Irina Kanousheva from the NFC International department told FNE.
