"I am convinced that Bulgaria has to have a continued presence at the Berlinale. We need this information point at the EFM in order to help our professionals,” Balkanski told FNE.
“Between 11-19 February 2016, our stand will be also the main place for the first international launch of the 20th anniversary of the Sofia Film Festival,” Stefan Kitanov, director of the Sofia Film Festival added.
According to the Bulgarian NFC international department manager Bossila Doncheva the stand will also promote Bulgarian talents living and working abroad. The 92 minute film Zhaleika by Berlin-based Eliza Petkova, produced by the German Film and Television Academy Berlin in cooperation with the New Bulgarian University, will premiere in the Generation 14plus competition, and the seven minute animation Blind Vaysha by Montreal-based Theodore Ushev, produced by Marc Bertrand with the support of the Canadian NFB and coproduced by Arte France, will premiere in the Generation 14plus Short competition.
“Generation 14plus is also hosting Petr Oukropec’s Ani ve snu!, coproduced by the Czech Republic’s Negativ Film Productions, Slovakia’s Arina and Bulgaria’s Chouchkov Brothers,” Doncheva added.
Bulgarian producer/director/writer Magdalena Ilieva, who is working in close collaboration with Sofia-based US director/editor Jonathan Heidelberger, will present Money For Funeral in the Talent Project Market. Produced by Little Wing Productions the film is about an ordinary Bulgarian woman who wishes to prepare her own funeral while she is still alive.
The privately financed short Torn Flowers, directed by young Katerina Borisova and produced by MacIver Productions, will screen at the EFM. The three co-founders of the company, American producer and cinematographer Eric Maclver and Bulgarian professionals Emanouil Angelov and Anatoli Netchev, will promote the company’s capacity in servicing US and other foreign productions in Eastern Europe.
