Four more minority coproductions will be screened in the parallel programme Open Horizons. While most of the feature films from the competition are supported by the Bulgarian National Film Center, only six out of over 30 short films which will be screened in the festival are supported by the Bulgarian National Film Center.
One jury will decide the awards for both feature film and short film competition. The jury will be presided by Kamen Kalev, who was awarded Best Director for Face Down (produced by Bulgaria’s Waterfront Film, France’s Le Pacte and Belgium’s Left Field Ventures) at the 33rd Golden Rose in 2015. The other members of the jury are Stefan Ivanov, Peter Dundakov, Teodora Duhovnikova and Borislav Kolev.
The festival will celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Bulgarian National Film Center and its collaboration with Creative Europe Media. “Since 1991 the BNFC has supported 138 feature films, 236 documentaries and 124 animated films with a total amount of nearly 80 m EUR. Since 2003 Creative Europe Media is allotting almost 500,000 EUR per year to Bulgarian producers, distributors and festivals. This is a considerable support for our national cinema”, NFC acting director Kamen Balkanski and Head of the Media office Creative Europe Desk Bulgaria told the local media.
The festival will also organise a round table dedicated to coproductions between Balkan countries. Official representatives from the Greek Film Center, Film Center Serbia and the Macedonian Film Fund are invited to share their experience.
