Bulgaria Celebrates National Cinema Day

By

SOFIA: Bulgaria’s National Film Center is celebrating the 13th National Cinema Day on 13 January 2017. The official celebration will be performed in close collaboration with the National Palace of Culture.

This year the celebration of the National Cinema Day takes place under the slogan Short Films Without End. A programme of 13 short films, all of them supported by the NFC, will be screened on 13 January 2017 in the famous Lumière hall. Among others, the list includes Pavel Vesnakov’s The Paraffin Prince and Pride, Peter Valchanov’s and Kristina Groseva’s Jump, Toma Washarov’s Red Light and Hristo Simeonov’s The Son.

Following the Memorandum signed between the National Film Center and the National Palace of Culture on 13 January 2016, the Palace is offering free of charge screenings for Bulgarian films.

According to an official statement of the NFC, “Short films are mostly made by young directors and supporting them in their early careers is very important. These films have almost no chance to be seen on the big screen and to meet their audience. During the recent years, the number of successful Bulgarian short films is increasing and they are winning national and international awards.”

In the future the Bulgarian NFC intends to celebrate the National Cinema Day also by screening documentary and animated films.
