The script written by Stanislav Semerdjiev follows the sophisticated relationship between writer Martin Sestrimsky and State Security Service officer Boyan Tillev before and after the collapse of the Communism. A very special file with long-term consequences, an obscure young woman with a double identity and suddenly enriched former communists form the multilayered construction of the plot.
“On 10 November 1989 Bulgaria experienced a kind of a revolution. As it profoundly marked our youth, I have put a lot of energy in showing the metamorphoses of that time“, Popzlatev told FNE. “The main part of the story is happening shortly after the political changes, but it is consciously cut with temporal inversions”, he added.
Popular actors Rushen Vidinliev, Elena Telbis, Leonid Yovchev, Irini Jambonas, Itzhak Fintzi, Krasimir Dokov, Ivaylo Hristov, Svetlana Yancheva and Valentin Ganev play characters equal in power.
Peter Popzlatev is producing through Post Scriptum 2 with the support of the Bulgarian National Film Center. The budget is almost 700,000 EUR.
Shooting took place throughout four seasons between 2014 and 2015. Various abandoned factories, warehouses, cafes from the 90s, the Ministry of Interior, the Vitosha and Lyulin mountains are among the main locations. “Most of the archive materials are shot by me”, Popzlatev also said. Montreal-based DoP Stefan Ivanov is lensing.
The premiere is set for the autumn of 2018.
