PRODUCTION: International doc coproduction Gangster of Love shooting in Croatia

ZAGREB: Croatian director Nebojsa Slijepcevic is in production with a Croatian-Romanian-German documentary Gangsters of Love that follows a matchmaker that is helping a single mother to find a husband while along the way taking an ironic look at the profoundly conservative nature of the Croatian men.

The film is produced by Vanja Jambrovic and the Zagreb based (www.restarted.hr) together with Florin Iepan and his Romanian company Sub-Cult-Ura (site under construction) and Stefan Kloos with his German company Kloos & Co (www.kloosundco.de). The project is supported by the Croatian Audiovisual Center (www.havc.hr) and the Romanian National Centre for Cinema (www.cncinema.abt.ro) which gave a production grant of 28,000 Euro last year. The budget is 150,422 Euro, Vanja Jambrovic told FNE.

Shooting started July 2011 and will wrap April 2012. Research and pre-production started February 2010. Post-production is due May 2012 to September 2012.

„Gangster of Love/Gangster te voli was quite successful at international pitchings", Vanja Jambrovic also told FNE. It won the IDFA Forum 2011 (http://www.idfa.nl/industry/markets-funding/the_forum.aspx) award for best pitch at Jihlava International Documentary Film Festival (www.dokument-festival.cz) and was already subject to 8 presales by: Duna TV Hungary (www.dunatv.hu), TG4 Ireland (www.tg4.ie), HRT Croatia (www.hrt.hr), TVR Romania (www.tvr.ro), ERR Estonia (news.err.ee), RTV Slovenia (www.rtvslo.si), Noga Comunications Israel (www.noga.co.il), TVP Kultura Poland (www.tvp.pl/kultura).

The film will have a 52 min version for TV and a 75 min version for festivals and cinemas. Nebojsa Slijepcevic, who is also the DOP, is shooting it in HD. Rise and Shine World Sales (www.riseandshine-berlin.com) is handling the international sales. The film shoud be finished in September, Vanja Jambrovic told FNE.
