Production began in early February with Croatian National Television producing. The film is to be completed by the end of 2014.
Names for the Cherry (Imena višnje) is the intimate story of an elderly couple living in a post-war time, a story about how love can fight loss, disease and aging. “The story might be completely unusual for this time and it is distinct anyway from my previous two films which were critical of Croatian society,” Schmidt said.
Josip Mlaki wrote the screenplay. Croatian actor Ivo Gregurević (Sonja and the Bull) and Nada Durevska (The Stranger) are starring. The cast includes Goran Bogdan, Mesud Dedović, Mustafa Nadarević, and Daria Lorenzi-Flatz. This is the third collaboration between Branko Schimdt and DoP Dragan Ruljančić.
Shooting started near Zagreb on 3 February 2014 and will wrap 7 March with a second shooting period in June and July.
