PRODUCTION: Land of Golden Apple in Development

By

NICOSIA: Petros Charalambous is developing an adaptation of Eve Makis's novel Land of Golden Apple (first published in the UK) with Eve Makis writing the script and Marios Piperides producing through AMP Filmworks from Cyprus.

The Ministry of Education and Culture of Cyprus and Seahorse Films are coproducing. The Ministry of Education and Culture of Cyprus financed the project through the National Film Fund. Stavros Pamballis is co-writing the script.

In a seemingly idyllic Cyprus village during the 1980’s, 11 year old Socrates is involved in a murder investigation that tears his life and his family apart, involving the death of the abusive father of his best friend.

The 90 minute drama will be shot on DCP in 2015 with an estimated budget of 850,000 EUR of which 70% of it is already secured, Piperides told FNE. Land of Golden Apple is the first feature film of Petros Charalambous, who studied film at California State University in the U.S. He returned home in 2000 and starting shooting short films, documentaries (such as the long documentary The Fire Within), commercials and music videos, and an opera (Epitafios).
