“KineDok wants to bring the documentary genre closer to the broader audience, build a community of like-minded people and keep them connected with the filmmakers and updated about what is new in the documentary world,” explains Jana Ripplová, KineDok project manager.
The project is conceived as a series of screenings of 12 thought-provoking East and Central European documentaries followed by debates with the filmmakers at more than twenty non-traditional venues in each of the participating countries: Czech Republic, Croatia, Hungary, Romania and Slovakia. Local distributors and people interested in documentary film will be the driving force of the project, freeing documentaries from the sterile walls of the unified cinema halls and bringing them to more intimate spaces, such as clubs, cafes or social centers.
The films selected for the pilot edition will include Oscar-nominated Joanna about a dying blogging mother, Daniel’s World (Berlinale, Panorama) providing an insight into the life of pedophiles, Sugar Blues (CPH:DOX) searching for the roots of sugar addiction or Normalization (DOK Leipzig) - a quest for justice that goes deep into the past.
The official launch of KineDok and its website is planned for Friday, March 6, 2015 at La Fabrika in Prague. For the introductory screening, a new documentary Sugar Blues by Andrea Culkova was chosen. The event is supported by HAVC. If you are around, do not miss this event!
