Laika is inspired by the life of the first space-travelling dog, but without the tragic ending of the dog’s death.
"The first 30 minutes of our film are in line with what happened, as Laika is sent to space. This is the science part of the project. The rest is fiction. Laika teams up with other astronaut animals and discovers a new planet, where they live peacefully until the first human comes along. The main theme of the film is the relationship between people and nature," Klimt told FNE.
The film is produced by Studio ZVON in coproduction with Universal Production Partners and Studio Bystrouska.
"The budget is 2 m EUR and we've received funding from the MEDIA Programme and the State Cinematography Fund. On 7 June we are starting a crowdfunding campaign so we can finish the last stage of post-production," Klimt said
The premiere of the 3D animated film is planned for November 2017, after 10 years in production, to mark the 60th anniversary of Laika's flight to space.
