The Magic Quill, a coproduction between Czech Republic and Slovakia, is a classic fairytale about the fight between Good and Evil, featuring a devil-inventor, a beautiful barmaid and a lazy slacker, who wants to get rich quick. The story takes place in a just Hell, where a Magic Quill writes down the sins of every mortal.
The film is directed by Marek Najbrt and stars Jan Cina, Judit Bárdos, Jan Budař and Ondřej Vetchý. The film is produced by Punk Film in coproduction with the Czech Television, Trigon Production, RTVS, Barrandov Studios and Michal Bauer. The planned budget is 2.2 m EUR and the production received funding from the Slovak Audiovisual Fund and the Czech Film Fund.
"We believe that the genre of films for the younger audience is a topic worth pursuing, especially in the contemporary European film market. The Magic Quill joins a modern approach to cinema for the children and youth audience with celebrating the classical characters from the Czech fairytales and Czech folklore, that adults will also appreciate," producer Ondřej Beránek from Punk Film told FNE.
The premiere of The Magic Quill is planned for November 2018.
