Producers on the Move
This year’s Festival de Cannes will see producer Kristýna Michálek Květová of Cinémotif Films in the 25th edition of the Producers on the Move program. Květová brings a wealth of experience, with several films having already premiered internationally. Her portfolio includes Veronika Lišková’s documentary The Visitors; the first ever Czech-Swiss coproduction, Lost in Paradise; and Lišková’s fiction feature debut, Year of the Widow, which recently completed filming.
La Résidence
Continuing the Festival de Cannes tradition of showcasing new talent and bolstering the industry, the scheme also includes La Résidence, in which 12 directors are chosen to spend time in Paris developing their debut or sophomore feature projects. Last year, for the fall session, Czech animator Diana Van Cam Nguyen was selected to work at La Résidence on her feature-length debut, Inbetween Worlds. Succeeding Nguyen in the spring session is Daria Kashcheeva, another notable figure from the Czech film scene. Kashcheeva, who gained acclaim with her award-winning animated shorts Daughter and Electra, is spending her time at La Résidence developing her anticipated feature-length debut, They/Them.

CZECH FILM / Summer 2024
In the summer issue of CZECH FILM magazine, we focus on films screened at the Annecy IAFF and the Festival de Cannes. The newest piece in the ongoing series of articles introducing young filmmakers focuses on Jan Vejnar and Adam Martinec. We offer a sneak peek into the production of the feature-length puppet animation Of Unwanted Things and People (working title). In an interview with Vladimíra Pachl Fomínová, we discuss the work of a film costume designer. We showcase Czech production company Cinémotif Films and on the 20th anniversary of the Czech Republic’s presence at the Marché du Film, we look back at the past two decades in a dedicated article.
