From its Czech cinema release on October 16 through Sunday 19th October, 35,176 people attended the film, a fairy tale comedy by director Jan Tomanek and his small Prague-based film studio Art and Animation (www.goatstorymovie.com).
"We are very happy with such amazing figures from the first weekend. It confirms to us that czech CGI feature animation attracts domestic audience very well," said Ales Danielis from Bontonfilm.
With admission of almost 40,000 viewers over the four-day premiere weekend, Goat Story beat such a famous Hollywood CGI smash hits as Shrek by DreamWorks Studio, Cars, and The Incredibles by Pixar Studio. Cars attracted 20,193 Czech viewers during first weekend in 2006, The Incredibles reached 23,530 viewers to Czech cinemas during the same time three years ago, according to the Czech Union of Film Distributors (www.ufd.cz).
Among Czech animated movies, Fimfarum 2 by director Jan Balej held the recent record in Czech cinemas, with 8,370 viewers in three days from its release in 2006.
The 35 million crown film (1.4 million euros) film was made using Maya 3D technology.
