Box office earnings increased by 17%, CZK 246 million, compared to 2009. The number of cinema goers climbed by just over 1 million, from 12.47 million a year earlier. The 2010 figure for admissions is the best since 1993, acording to UFD. The average ticket price increased to CZK 113, compared to an average of CZK 98 in 2009.

While Czech comedy Jiří Vejdělek´s comedy Women Temptation (produced and distributed by www.falcon.cz) topped the attendance charts with 1.2 million viewers and sales of CZK 123 million, the box office winner was James Cameron´s 3D epic fantasy Avatar, distributed by Bontonfilm (www.bontonfilm.cz), which attracted more than 1.26 million cinemagoers and took a record CZK 210 million in ticket sales. Tim Burton´s Alice in Wonderland in 3D (www.falcon.cz) was among the most succesful foreign movies in 2010, with Czech attendance of 400,000 and ticket sales of CZK 53 million.

As usual, Czech movie fans were again very loyal to domestic film production, claiming five of the top ten spots. In third place was the crime thriller Kajínek based on a true criminal story by director Petr Jákl and his firm JBJ Company (www.jbj-film.cz), with CZK 86 million in ticket sales and more than 790,000 viewers.
