FNE at Black Nights FF 2012: Awards announced in Tallinn

    TALLINN: The grand prix of the 16th Black Nights Film Festival (www.poff.ee) was awarded to the Ukrainian film House with a Turret, the Tridens Herring competition prize was awarded to Everybody's Gone directed by Georgi Paradzhanov.

    The prize for the best Estonian film went to Mushrooming directed by Toomas Hussar. The festival was held in Tallinn from 12-28 November 2012.

    House with a Turret directed by Eva Neymann also received the best cinematographer award for Rimvydas Leipus. Everybody’s Gone is a Georgian, Russian and Czech coproduction. The dreictor is a relative of Sergei Parazhanov, one of the most famous Georgian directors of the Soviet period. The film is produced by Atlantic Films (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) who are also handling international sales. It is coproduced by Georgian Films based in Tbilisi, and Barrandov Studios (www.barrandov.cz).

    Mushrooming, a mix of genres that spreads over drama, satire and horror, is about a member of the Estonian parliament's visit to the forest to gather mushrooms, that goes badly wrong. The film is produced by Allfilm (www.allfilm.ee).

    Best actor went to Michal Urbaniak for his role in the Polish film My Father’s Bike directed by Piotr Trzaskalski and produced by Federico Film (www.federicofilm.com).

    Best actress went to Franziska Petri for her role in Betrayal directed by Kirill Serebennikov of Russia.

    The Croatian, Slovenian, Bosnia and Herzegovina coproduction, Halima’s Path directed by Arsen Anton Ostojic received a special mention by the jury. The film was produced by Arkadena Zagreb and backed by the Croatian Audiovisual Fund (www.havc.hr) in co-production with F.I.S.T (Bosnia and Herzegovina), Studio Arkadena (Slovenia), Rixfilm (Germany), and West End Productions (Serbia).

    Tridens Herring competition of the Baltic Sea Region feature debuts took place for the first time, with main prize, the Big Fish award for the best film (scholarship of 5000 euros) going to Everybody's Gone.

    International Federation of Film Critics FIPRESCI Best film: The Daughter by Aleksandr Kasatkin and Natalya Nazarova from Russia

    FICC jury award Don Quijote: Keep Smiling by Rusudan Chkonia (Georgia / France / Luxembourg)

    NETPAC: Wadjda by Haifaa Al-Mansour (Saudi Arabia / Germany)
