Ghost Mountaineer is a horror-tinged thriller about a young company of winter hikers who venture to Siberia and stumble upon a spooky sequence of events in a small Buryatian village. The quiet group leader Olle goes missing on the last day of the trip. The others are presented with a puzzle that they cannot and later don’t want to solve. Strangers in a strange land, the group is slowly coming to an understanding, that revenge and past deeds don’t know the line between life and death.
After three shooting days in Estonia, 20 additional days will take place in Siberia, near Irkutsk, during March of 2014. The shooting period will be capped off with six days in Georgia and Estonia. “We hope to revive the true 1980s atmosphere. The film is based on a case that happened then”, producer Anneli Ahven said.
The film is budgeted at 600,000 EUR and it is a 100 percent Estonian production. The Estonian production house Kopli Kinokompanii received funding from Estonian Film Institute, with additional funds from private investors.
Ghost Mountaineer is scheduled to be released in September 2015.
