1944 recounts the Battle of Tannenberg, the bloodiest episode on the Eastern front of WWII. The story revolves around two Estonian brothers figthing at opposing sides.

Eyewell will bring the film to Berlin and Cannes markets and also to MipTV, targeting territories with WWII experience with theatrical and TV release. Initial interest in the feature has come from France, Benelux and the UK.

1944 is a co-production between Estonia’s Taska Film and Finland’s MRP Matila Röhr Productions. The film reunites the producer Kris Taska and the director Elmo Nüganen, the duo behind the most successful Estonian feature in the last 20 years, Names in Marble produced by Taska Film and MRP in 2002. The reported budget is around 1.5 m EUR , coming mainly from domestic sources, making 1944 the most expensive live action Estonian feature to date.
