FilmEstonia Cash Rebate Fund Announces First Grant

    TALLINN: The Estonian Film Institute announced that the first grant from the country’s new cash rebate fund FilmEstonia will go to the historical drama The Eternal Road by the Finnish director AJ Annila. The total budget of FilmEstonia in 2016 is 0.5 m EUR.

    The amount of the first grant is 350,000 EUR, or 30% of the projected 1.17 m EUR spent in Estonia. The Eternal Road (Ikitie in Finnish, Igitee in Estonian) is produced by Ilkka Matila of MRP Matila Röhr Productions with the Estonian partner Kristian Taska of Taska Film. The overall budget of the film is 2 m EUR. The entire shooting and parts of postproduction will take place in Estonia in 2016.

    The next deadlines for application are 29 March, 24 May and 8 November 2016. The FilmEstonia cash rebate fund aims at attracting foreign film and TV producers to boost local audiovisual sector and the country’s overall economy. Foreign production companies can apply through Estonian-registered cooperation partners. The fund will support production and coproduction of features, long and short animation, animated series, quality TV drama series and documentaries.

    FilmEstonia has a budget threshold requirement of 1 m EUR for feature films and 2 m EUR for long animated films. More information at www.filmestonia.eu.
