PRODUCTION: Alexandre Koberidze Starts Shooting German/Georgian Coproduction

By

TBILISI: Georgian director Alexandre Koberidze has started shooting his new feature film Wind Has Blown, A Woman Had a Thought about Her Silk Scarf as a coproduction between Germany and Georgia.

The film is Koberidze's student diploma film at the DFFB (German Film and Television Academy Berlin). Koberidze is the winner of the German Film Critics Association Prize for his debut feature Let the Summer Never Come Again at the Berlinale Film Festival in 2018.

Wind Has Blown, A Woman Had a Thought about Her Silk Scarf is the story of Lisa and Giorgi, who fall in love at first sight, during a random encounter in the street. It happens so quickly that they even forget to ask each other’s names. They set a date, time and place for the following day and continue on their ways. But Giorgi and Lisa are not alone in this strange moment. Someone who witnesses their encounter places a curse upon them, so that they wake up with completely changed appearances the next day.

The main characters are played by Giorgi Bochorishvili, Vakhtang Panchulidze, Ani Karseladze, Oliko Bakradze and Giorgi Ambroladze.

The film is produced by DFFB through the involvement of Mariam Shatberashvili, in coproduction with Sakdoc Film represented by Ketevan Kipiani. The project is supported by the MBB and RBB with 150,000 EUR / 450,000 GEL and the Georgian National Film Centre with 66,666 EUR / 200,000 GEL. DFFB is providing additional in-kind contribution including technical and overall support.

The total budget is estimated at 440,000 EUR / 1,320,000 GEL.

"A simple story of love follows the city's everyday life. Everyday life in Kutaisi is intertwined with humour. It will be a romantic tragicomedy with documentary and magic cinematic elements. Such a concept can sound naive, but when calculated for the customer, it can become the author's weapon. The film uses simple and silent film elements. A static camera and less dialogue here means the humour is expressed by the body and the sorrow is expressed by tears,“ Koberidze  said.

Shooting is taking place in Kutaisi, Georgia. The filming began on 14 April 2019 and will last for two months. Post-production will last up to two years and is expected to be completed in 2021.
