As a young couple, Nika and Salome's everyday life changes due to gravitation. Nika becomes a murderer, Salome converts to a religious sect, awaiting the end of the world. Nika’s behaviour is infantile, he runs around a playground holding his newborn son Kartlos like a steering wheel, imitating the sound of an engine. Nika immediately befriends strangers; for him social barriers are non-existent. He asks questions just for the sake of conversing. Unable to follow orders, he acts his own way. Salome is childlike as well, everything unfamiliar brings her both interest and fear. Like a child, she has many stimuli and doesn’t limit her endeavours. She often repeats words for pleasure and talks to herself. Nika and Salome are united by a sense of loss. Salome was orphaned by losing her parents in a car crash, Nika’s father is deceased as well. Their need to be safe remains unsatisfied. Exposed people seek a strong father figure, be it Stalin, Christ or aliens. Field is a story of the psychology of will.
„There are many bad things I dislike. On the other hand, there are many good things that I like – both the good and the bad influence me equally. We tend to remember negative feelings more than the positive ones, that's why I don't intend to swim against the tide, hence, I wrote a script about the most negative reflections which settled in my consciousness, one of which is the manipulation of people by false promises,“ Lasha Tskvitinidze told FNE.
The film is produced by Nodar Nozadze through Pansionati in coproduction with Nushi Film (Tekla Machavariani) from Georgia.
It received a production grant of 170,000 EUR / 470,000 GEL from the Georgian National Film Center in 2018. At its early development stage, this project (previously called The Rebar) was awarded a development prize from Initiative Film (Isabelle Fauvel).
„The total Budget is 420,000 EUR. So far we have only the amount of the GNFC and negotiations are going on about securing equipment. Currently, we are looking for coproducers to join us and be part in creating this film,“ Nodar Nozadze told FNE.
The film is currently in preproduction and working on casting. Shooting is planned in October 2019 in Tbilisi and December 2019 in Goa, India. The premiere of the film is expected in 2020.
