Cinenuovo Expands into Hungarian Distribution

By

BUDAPEST: Hungarian exhibitor Cineuova will launch distribution activities in July 2013, company CEO Dániel Maresch told FNE.

The company plans to revive distribution of European mainstream films, popular in Hungary into the 1980’s, when Hungarians flocked to French and Italian comedies before the US invasion (both in cinema and commercial TV) of the 1990’s changed the distribution landscape.

The company’s decision comes at a time when the market is shrinking, amid numerous rival distribution companies are numerous, Maresch believes that the people remember these films and crave them. Cineuova has been a cinema operator since 1995. Maresch said experiences in this field will be useful at distribution by creating the financing background for distribution.

Hungary has no any state funding for distribution and attendance is shrinking, making it financially risky. However ticket prices continue to rise.

Cinenuovo will be distributing new European films nationally with a dual approach marketing strategy: conservative advertising campaign, and web 2.0 social networking.

The first three releases are all Italian films: Federico Moccia’s Scusa ma ti chiamo amore, followed by Educazione Siciliana by Gabriele Salvatores and starring John Malkovich and Peter Stormare, and La Tutta la Vita Davanti, a grottesque comedy by Paolo Virzí. The company plans to distribute 8-10 titles per year, depending on the results of its activities in 2013.
