A 1968 version directed by Zoltan Varkonyi was a big-budget and all-star cast epic. Sas (Espresso, S.O.S. Love, 9 ½ Dates) said he plans a modern adaptation rather than a remake. Currently working on the script, Sas is producing through his company Greenworks, planning a €13 million film with international co-producers, he told FNE. A 2010 release is planned.
The historical romance is set during the 16th century Hungarian victory over Turkish troops in Eger.
