The story of The Maiden Danced to Death (http://www.themaidendancedtodeath.com/) was first presented as a very successful dance show by Honvéd Ensemble (http://www.honvedart.hu) and began filming after receiving funding from Eurimages (http://www.coe.int) and the Hungarian Motion Picture Association (MMKA - http://english.mmka.hu/). The film uses the universal language of dance and music to deliver its message on the theme of everyday compromises.
The cast includes American actors Deborah Kara Unger and Stephen McHattie in the lead roles. Director Hules is best known as an actor, working with Poland's Jerzy Grotowski.
The film is produced by Cinema-film Kft., Quiet Revolution and Casablanca Films with a budget of 440 million HUF (1,615,000 Euros) and is intended for an international audience. Producer Gábor Garami plans to finish the film by the end of the year and present it in February at The Hungarian Film Week. However, completion of the film could be delayed by MMKA funding, as this film is on the list of Hungarian films whose financing has been put on hold.
