Delta, a Hungarian-German co-production directed by Kornel Mundruczo, will compete against 18 other films for the Palme d'Or in the Cannes main competition. A family drama described as an adaptation of Hamlet and Electra that takes place on the remote Romanian Danube delta, the film won both the grand prize and the critics' prize at this year's Hungarian Film Week. Mundruczo's previous films Johanna and Pleasant Days earned numerous awards at festivals including Cottbus, Locarno, Sofia, and Krakow.
Katapult Film production 411-Z, from rising young director Daniel Erdelyi, is set on a shipping barge on the Danube. Erdelyi is currently preparing his next production From the Deep, a horror genre film.
Cannes runs May 14-25.
