Hungarian Film Funding Approved

By FNE Staff

BUDAPEST: The Hungarian government has approved a proposal to renew film funding. According to local news reports, the cabinet met on 31 May 2011 and approved the plan proposed by the recently appointed film commissioner Andy Vajna.

The new plan calls for 1.6 billion forint to go to a state-owned entity, the Hungarian National Film Fund. The move was backed by Hungary's Prime Minister, Viktor Orban.

Vajna has now been asked to submit a three-year plan for the new fund.

Film production in Hungary had been halted when the former funding body, the MMKA, was unable to fulfil pledges of grants, creating a crisis among Hungarian producers.
