Valentin 2, a sequel to Lonely Valentin which was produced by LITLBAZ and BULVE production and is near to breaking the Lithuanian domestic film record, is planned to premiere on 7 February, 2014.
Production on the comedy Nauji metai po padu (New Year‘s Eve) is due to be finished by the end of July 2013. The film will be premiered on 20 December 2013.
The budget for each film is expected to be in the range of 200,000 – 260,000 EUR.
Lonely Valentin was funded by private investors, as was another recently successful Lithuanian film Tyli naktis (Christmas. Uncensored) by Latvian film director Maris Martinsons and produced by KRUKFILMS. Both films, targeted at mature audience and cast with celebrities, point to the efficiency of new film funding models.
Naujokas told FNE, “The success of the two previous movies encouraged us to announce our upcoming projects, because we are sure that our films are necessary for Lithuanian audience. Private funding, still rare in Lithuania, enables us to make more than one film in a five year period, because we don’t have to wait for state support. Though filmmakers face other restrictions such as short, intense production periods and simplified dialogue-based cinema language, such funding models are appropriate for comedy genre films starring celebrities.”
