By Auksė Kancerevičiūtė
A new arthouse cinema, Theater Pasaka, opened in the Lithuanian capital Vilnius with a screening of the Lithuanian documentary Traukinys stovi penkias minutes directed by Janina Lapinskaitė.

Theatre Pasaka (www.kinopasaka.lt), located at the Vilnius old town, will provide arthouse films and a festival screening schedule. Daily programme screenings started with Woody Allen film Whatever Works and Italian comedy Pranzo di Ferragosto, directed by Gianni di Gregorio.

"This is private initiative. We are planning to develop non-commercial (arthouse) film exhibition in Lithuania," said Greta Akcijonaitė, managing director of the cinema. "We would like to strength the platform of cinema policies discussions and initiatives in Lithuania. Distribution of arthouse films is also a priority for us, as well as keeping an educational profile in our activity."

Akcijonaitė was selected as one of ten Central European distributors in European Film Promotion's Up Next! series at San Sebastian in 2008. She was Managing Director of Skalvija cinema centre (Vilnius) from 2005 to 2009. She is also organiser and programmer of the annual festivals Women Film Festival, art director of the International Vilnius Film Festival "Kino Pavasaris," and a member of Film Board at Lithuanian Ministry of Culture.

The cinema boutique Pasaka will allow patrons to enjoy various film programmes, such as "BEIBIkinas" (for parents and infants up to 3 years old), "Šeimos seansai" (for families), "Kinn'as" (for students), "Meilė kine"(for couples), and "Senjorų arbatėlė" (for senior citizens).

The cinema has two halls with capacity for 270 viewers.

Ticket prices are 3.50 Euros (12 Lt) per ticket; 2.90 Euros (10 Lt) for seniors, students and the disabled; and 2.30 Euros (8 Lt) for film club members.
