The decision is supported by the director of the Lithuanian Cinematographers Union (www.kinosajunga.lt ) Gytis Lukšas, who maintains that it is necessary to sell the properties because they are "too old and inapplicable for movie use". However, chairman of the Independent Producers Association Saulius Beržinis argues that privatization is taking place "too quickly and behind closed doors."

Koreiva plans to privatize a holiday site, a house, a former movie rental office space in Klaipeda, and the former movie theater Jaunystė.

Permission to sell the property was given by the Lithuanian Film Board, chaired by the Vice-Minister of Culture Donatas Valančiauskas.

"How to use the forthcoming money will be considered by the Board of Lithuanian cinema, but the plan is to invest the funds in the film business. For example, the cinema theatre Naglis in Palanga needs reconstruction of the hall, as well as the second-floor, and new equipment." There are also plans to restructure and modernize cinemas in Klaipėda.

"We plan to renovate a complex and equip a modern cinema, where new Lithuanian films would be premiered, " Koreiva said.
